As UK looks to fill the final positions of the 2014 class, they are also working on getting the 2015 class kicked off in style. With that in mind, there are some big names that you are going to need to know, as they look to be major targets of the current staff. Here’s 5 names to get you started:
This 5’11 running back out of Berea, Kentucky is already garnering attention from around the country as one of the top running backs in Kentucky. It’s almost already set in stone that Harris will certainly be the top prospect in the state, and is obviously the highest priority of the staff as far as recruiting in the 2015 campaign. Harris has already visited UK multiple times unofficially, and reportedly is building a great relationship with running backs coach, Chad Scott. Still, rumors are that Harris has long been a Michigan Wolverine fan growing up, and has been recruited by both Michigan and Ohio State longer than Kentucky has recruited him. It’s an uphill battle here for the Cats, but they certainly won’t be backing off.
Watch him work, and you’ll see why he’s so highly coveted:
This gunslinger from Texas is already turning heads across the country. You might think that Stidham, being in Texas and being recruited by all the Texas schools, may not have any interest in UK, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Stidham was actually born in Kentucky, and is a huge UK basketball fan. On top of that, he still has a lot of family in the central Kentucky area.
3) George Brown
Big George Brown out of Cincinnati is another on you want to keep your eye on. Kentucky has been recruiting him since as soon as the staff got settled in Lexington, and is a part of the #CIC that you may have heard of. His cousin is Mike Edwards, the Winton Woods Safety who is currently committed to UK as well. Brown is a OT/DL player, though most think he projects more as an Offensive Tackle. No matter which position he wants to play though, he’s a priority for the staff.
4) Emmitt Smith
No, not the great running back out for the Dallas Cowboys, and as far as I can tell, he’s no relation, still Emmitt Smith is a big time football player. The inside linebacker out of Bowling Green, Kentucky is garnering attention nationwide, and 247 Sports already has him rated as a 4* prospect, and one of the top ILB’s in the country. Kentucky has already offered, and will no doubt be out in full force as they attempt to close off the borders of the state, and keep the top talent home. that includes beating out Louisville, who will no doubt be tough to fend off for Smith’s services.
5) Cody McPeek
It’s early, but this 6’3 315 pound lineman out of Ashland is already getting interest from several BCS programs, including UK. McPeek isn’t rated yet, but all signs point to him being a highly touted 3* type lineman at the least. He’s already visited Kentucky, and it’s hard to imagine that UK won’t have something to say about his recruitment before it’s all said and done, and it’s highly likely he could be a Cat when it’s all said and done.
So there you go. Coach Stoops has UK coming off it’s best recruiting class, currently putting together one even stronger than that, and has us set up for even more success in 2015.
Go Big Blue!
