Boston Celtics rule James Young out of NBA Summer League

The Boston Celtics have officially ruled shooting guard James young out of the NBA Orlando Summer League.

Young is still recovered from a neck injury he sustained in a minor car crash this offseason. That same incident caused him to miss several pre-draft workouts leading up to the NBA Draft. He’s missed two Summer League games already, including Monday’s loss to the Indiana Pacers.

The Rochester Hills, Michigan native knocked down a squad-best 82 3-pointers, the seventh most in a single season in program history and second most by a UK freshman.

He shot 42.6 percent from behind the arc and better than 85 percent from the free-throw line in the NCAA Tournament.Young averaged 18.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in the Final Four en route to Final Four All-Tournament Team honors.

The Celtics picked him with the 17th overall pick in this year’s draft, but they’ll have to wait until the 2014-15 NBA season to see him in an official game.

Hopefully, he’ll be fully healed soon and ready for the start of training camp.
