After last year, it was naturally assumed that the 2015 class would take a little bit of a backseat to the 2014 class. After all, this 2015 class was going to be the first one where it was going to matter what UK did on the field. The 2014 class was supposed to be the class where it didn’t matter what happened on the field, because you could spin it that there was immediate playing time available. The assumption has always been, you can’t play that in 2015.
But now here we are on May 5th, well in to recruiting for the 2015 class, and UK hasn’t missed a beat. So far, UK has 3 4* commits depending on what service you use, a potential future 4* recruit who isn’t currently rated (Alex Stump), and seem to be the odds on favorite for 4* Tight End CJ Conrad, who will be deciding on Friday of this week.
Not to mention of course UK is still in on some guys who would be in the conversation for highest rated players to ever commit to UK according to various outlets.
You really can not say enough about the job that Coach Stoops has done on the recruiting front. For a program coming off back to back 2-10 seasons, to have a near top 25 recruiting class currently (according to most services), and to be coming off a consensus top 25 recruiting class is simply mind boggling.
Now, imagine if UK wins 6 games this year, or if UK just goes to a bowl in the next two years. That along with the new stadium renovations, as well as renovations to Nutter Fieldhouse, and you have a coach that is poised to start poaching players that three years ago UK would have had no business recruiting.
I made a bold prediction after National Signing Day that UK would get a commitment from at least one 5* prospect in the 2015 class. I’ll make one more, UK is going to reel off 3 straight top 25 classes to go along with their top 30 class in 2013, and will enter the 2017 class as a ranked team. All because of Coach Stoops’ clear vision for the program, and is other-worldly recruiting prowess.
