Kentucky Wide Receiver target, Moral Stephens
As everybody knows, the Wildcats held a major “Friday Night Lights” camp this past weekend. The camp was attended by almost every current commit and a whole slew of uncommitted recruits. I heard some very promising news during the course of the weekend.
Friday night, I heard some rumblings that running back commit Stanley “Boom” Williams was chanting “Yahtzee” in the direction of some media members at the camp. I texted someone who was at the camp and asked what was going on, and was told that four-star Wide Receiver target Moral Stephens had been getting the full-court press from the coaching staff, and that he was talking to the staff about verbally committing. I spoke with Moral on Sunday, and he told me that he had a good visit at UK, and that he loved all of the attention that he was getting from the staff. When I asked him if what I had heard was true, he responded with “maybe, anything can happen.” He said that he will make his decision after he takes some more visits.
Things got interesting once again on Saturday afternoon, after I received a text from somebody else saying that Columbus, OH Offensive Tackle Brady Taylor was meeting with UK coaching staff, and that he could be the next one to “pop.” Although Taylor left campus without committing, he has set an announcement for Monday evening around 6 or 7pm. I feel pretty confident in Kentucky’s chances with this one.
2014 offensive tackle prospect Andrew Harrell told me that he had a great camp, this past weekend. He says that the coaching staff has told him to be patient and that they are “getting really close” to an offer. My gut feeling is that the staff is slow-playing Harrell and I would be extremely surprised if he actually received an offer, especially if Taylor and Nick Richardson become Cats in the near future..
2015 offensive tackle prospect George Brown of Cincinnati recently told me on Tuesday that he has collected 31 offers so far. The Wildcats are one of the teams that have offered. Brown is definitely interested in Kentucky and says that they will be on his “short list” whenever he dwindles it down, probably around the middle or end of his Junior season at Winton Woods HS. Keep in mind, Brown’s cousin is current 2014 UK DB commit Mike Edwards.
Final note on 2014: I believe that you will see a couple of commitments in the near future. There are only a few scholarships left in this class. The general belief is that the coaching staff may be telling potential commits that the time is now if they want to be a part of this team. For example: When you look at four wide receivers that could be very close to committing (Stephens, Dorian Baker, Braxton Berrios and Blake Blone), somebody is going to get left out. Obviously, some scholarships will be held for guys like Matt Elam, etc., but there are few exceptions. Things should get interesting very soon.
